The hotel and its history
Hôtel de France, nestled deep in the Loue Valley in Ornans, is housed in a welcoming, historic building surrounded by flowers. This site has been home to many institutions. The building first housed the Hostellerie du Soleil d’Or during the 16th century, then the Hôtel des Voyageurs, before becoming the Hôtel de France four hundred years later.
During the last century, the building was home to the first cinema in Ornans, to the delight of film lovers. The rooms and exterior have also been used as backdrops for many films. Over the years, Hôtel de France has become a staple for nature lovers, vintage car enthusiasts, pilgrims on the Via Francigena and fly fishermen.
Hôtel de France is also one of the oldest buildings in Ornans and one of the oldest hotels in France.
